Transparent Acrylic XT is extruded and offers high clarity, making it ideal for decorative and functional applications. In contrast, transparent Acrylic GS is particularly suitable for chemical applications. The high chemical resistance of GS acrylic makes it a popular choice in laboratories and industrial environments where exposure to chemicals and solvents is common. Are impact resistance and safety key considerations? If so, it is advisable to use a transparent polycarbonate round rod. Finally, food-grade PP meets the requirements for use in food-processing environments.
How can I machine a plastic round bar?
You can drill, mill, turn and sand a plastic rod. When drilling, it helps to use a sharp drill bit and remove chips as you go, so that the rod does not crack or warp. Do you want a nice finish? Sanding with an increasing grain size ensures a smooth surface. With transparent materials such as acrylic, polishing is possible to restore or improve clarity. Please note that acrylic is more susceptible to stress cracks if processed incorrectly.

A plastic round rod is easy to cut to size, provided you use the right tools and take into account the properties of the material you have chosen. You can cut the rod to size using a (fine-toothed) circular saw or a hand saw. Work at a steady speed and avoid generating too much heat, so that the material does not melt or fray. For a clean finish, it is advisable to clamp the rod securely and lightly deburr the cut afterwards.
