Marlan Solid Surface

Marlan solid surface is a high-quality plastic that is extremely suitable for all kinds of applications.

Solid surface literally means 'durable surface material'. It is a new generation of cast or sprayed mineral polymer products. Solid surface is a mix of special resins with mineral fillers on an aluminium base. The homogeneous material can be composed in various ways, but is usually a bond of a resin with aluminium trihydrate (ATH) and colour carriers. ATH is a flame-retardant filler that is normally added to polyester, vinylester and epoxy resins to make them flame-retardant.

Description

What is Marlan solid surface?

Marlan solid surface: durable surface material

Marlan solid surface is a high-quality plastic that is extremely suitable for all kinds of applications.

Solid surface literally means 'durable surface material'. It is a new generation of cast or sprayed mineral polymer products. Solid surface is a mix of special resins with mineral fillers on an aluminium base. The homogeneous material can be composed in various ways, but is usually a bond of a resin with aluminium trihydrate (ATH) and colour carriers. ATH is a flame-retardant filler that is normally added to polyester, vinylester and epoxy resins to make them flame-retardant.

Marlan solid surface is a solid, non-porous material

It is a homogeneous mixture of a specially developed polyester resin and mineral fillers. The high-quality polyester resin gives Marlan a beautiful, pure colouring. Characteristic for marlan is that the surface feels stony, but not cold. This and the choice of polyester resin distinguish Marlan from other solid surfaces.

Marlan combines the advantages of synthetic materials with the beauty of natural stone. Our solid surface resembles marble and granite, but is much lighter, is resistant to chemicals and feels much warmer. It can also be worked like hardwood.

Because marlan is the same colour throughout, it can also be used to create three-dimensional shapes. With our special POLYMIX two-component adhesive, seamless and almost invisible connections between marlan products are possible, creating a hygienic unit.

Dirt, damage and repair

Daily cleaning of Marlan is done with a damp cloth. As the material is dirt-repellent, this is done in no time.

If there are sticky stains on the material (lemonade, fruit, greasy fingers), use a dishcloth with natural detergents, such as green soap.

Difficult stains can be carefully removed with a cloth with liquid abrasive or with an abrasive sponge. Examples of difficult stains are nail polish, make-up and iron scratches. You can also remove any small scratches in this way.

Composition and properties

Solid surface sheet material is made of mineral filler bound in a polyester resin. Solid surface material is known for its excellent properties. This material is namely:

  • chemical-resistant
  • non-combustible
  • food-safe
  • non-porous
  • anti-bacterial
  • biologically neutral
  • moisture-resistant
  • seamless
  • colourful and colourfast
  • translucent
  • robust and durable
  • anti-stain

How is Marlan solid surface made?

A mixture of polyester resin, bauxite powder and dye is made. This material is chemically mixed and heated.

Injection moulding, customisation and finishing

What happens to the solid surface afterwards depends on the application. We can inject the solid surface into moulds (injection moulding) to make all kinds of three-dimensional shapes. We can also make sheets, plates or blocks from the material. It's just what the customer wants.

We cut blocks, sheets or blocks of solid surface to size, after which we can join and glue together several parts. For this, we use our special POLYMIX two-component adhesive, which incorporates parts of the same material type. This creates a single unit with no visible seams, folds or colour deviations.

Finally, we can finish the product with special sandpaper. This creates a soft texture and a matt appearance.

Application possibilities

The moisture- and wear-resistant solid surface collection by Marlan® is highly suitable as a decorative panel material for table tops, floors, counter and bar fronts, kitchen worktops, washbasin furniture, shower floors, wall coverings and other interior applications. The material is also food-safe and may therefore come into contact with food.
