What exactly is plexiglass?<\/h2>\n

Plexiglas is also known as PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) or acrylic glass. This plastic is often used as a substitute for glass. The material was developed in the 1930s and is known by brand names such as Perspex or acrylic sheet. Plexiglas is clear, lightweight and up to 25 times stronger than ordinary glass. This makes it a safe and practical choice for applications where glass is too heavy, too fragile or too impractical. Think, for example, of windows, display cases, screens, cupboard doors or outdoor structures where high impact resistance and light weight are important.<\/p>\n

In addition, plexiglass is available in many different types, such as\u00a0transparent<\/a><\/strong>, opal, coloured or matt. There is also a distinction between extruded (XT) and cast (GS) sheets. Cast plexiglass, for example, is less susceptible to stress and easier to work with. Depending on your project, one type may therefore be more suitable than the other.
